Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla was one of the foundational figures of the modern electrical age, and his most far-reaching contribution was helping make alternating current the dominant power system of industrial civilization. Born into a Serbian family in what is now Croatia, Tesla trained in engineering in Europe before moving to the United States. Compared with the direct current model associated with Thomas Edison, Tesla's alternating current system was more efficient for transmitting electricity over long distances, less costly to scale, and better suited to large urban and industrial networks. His work on polyphase AC systems, motors, transformers, and power transmission became central to the design of the modern electrical grid. Tesla also explored wireless transmission, high-frequency current, radio, and remote control, often thinking far ahead of his era. Not all of his ideas were fully realized during his lifetime, but many later proved visionary. Tesla's importance to the world lies in turning electricity into a practical public utility capable of powering cities, factories, transport, communication, and daily home life. The bright and electrified modern world owes much to the systems he helped make possible. He remains a symbol of technical imagination, bold invention, and long-range thinking.
